Russell J. Johnson

Russell J, Johnson was born October 28, 1904 to David and Junie Jones Johnson in the Bear Creek Community, Union Township in rural Dallas County, Iowa and died on February 6, 2005 in the Green County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 3 months and 9 days.

Russell was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church. He and his father were custodians of the church for many years, back when coal and wood had to be used to heat the church, making it much more work. As a young man Russell was a 4-H leader. He was always concerned about everyone's welfare, and ready to help out. Russell and his father would help neighbors with hay and threshing crews, as well as other farm work.

Russell graduated from Earlham High School in 1923. After gall bladder surgery in the summer of 1988, Russell entered the Panora Nursing and Rehab Center where he resided until his death.

Russell was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Junie Johnson; two sisters Sylvia Johnson and Mina Welch; and twin brothers Leland and Leevern Johnson.

Russell is survived by his nephew Larry Johnson of La Crenscenta, California and and two great nieces.
