Calvin Rex McVay, 71, of Winterset died April 11, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Visitation will be held from 1–8 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 13) at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6–8 p.m. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg.

Calvin McVay was born March 30, 1934, in Madison County to Forrest H. and Velma Iona (Klos) McVay. He resided in Adair and Union counties as a child. On March 15, 1956, he married Ethel I. Fisher in Afton. They lived in rural Afton, moved to Lorimor in 1960 and to Winterset in 1994, where he worked in construction. Calvin had been chief of the Lorimor Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Lions Club, Laborers Union Local 177 and several genealogical societies in Madison County. He also was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Keith, Larry, Mike and Dan McVay; and three sisters, Helen Finnagen, Patricia Ambrose and Kathryn Craig.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Winterset; two daughters, Christina Scott of Columbia, Ky., and Diana Hansen of Lorimor; two sons, Donald McVay and David McVay, both of Winterset; three brothers, Duane McVay of Rogers, Ark., John McVay of Harrison, Ark., and Abe McVay of Winterset; two sisters, Judy Tull and Beth McGrath, both of Afton; and six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandsons.
