Norma Rosamond Hollen, 91, of Winterset died from complications of a stroke July 3, 1998 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. The body has been cremated and private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery.
Norma Hollen was born July 2, 1907, in Adair County to Ole H. and Mabel Maria (Sawyer) Hollen. She attended Harvard Country School, graduated from Winterset High School in 1924 and was a 1934 graduate of the University of Iowa with a BS degree in general science. She later obtained a master's degree in textiles and clothing from Iowa State University. Norma moved to Winterset in 1971, following retirement from teaching at ISU. She was elected professor emeritus after teaching for 30 years in the College of Home Economics. Norma wrote a book on flat-pattern making and co-authored another book on textiles. Both books have been used internationally by 150 colleges and universities. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Delta Epsilon, Iota Sigma Pi, Sunshine Garden Club, Madison County Women's Democratic Club, Iowa Public Television, Winterset Public Library and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Hollen and a sister-in-law, Lucille Hollen, both of Winterset; two nephews, Mike Hollen (wife Joni) of Waterloo and Eric Hollen (wife Susan) of Winterset; and two nieces, Jeanne Rafdal (husband Doug) of Des Moines and Maxine Hudson (husband Larry) of Winter Park, Fla.; six grandnephews; and two grandnieces.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Winterset Public Library.
Arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
