Mrs. M. J. Graham

Mary Ellen Anderson was born in Henderson county, Illinois on January 13, 1847 and went to heaven from Winterset, Iowa August 9, 1931 aged 84 years.

She received her education in Burlington, Iowa. She was married to Mathew J. Graham on October 25, 1865. The 66th anniversary of that wedding comes next October.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham came to Madison county to settle in Douglas township in 1869. In 1893 they moved to Winterset where they have since resided.

God blest their home with seven children: George M. of Ontario, California, Charles W. of Glendale, California; Frank L. and Lee A. and Mrs. Mabel Percival of Winterset; Mrs. Myrtle Becker of Cannas, Washington and Mrs. Ada Call of Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Graham in early girlhood confessed her Savior and has been a faithful member of the United Presbyterian church since her marriage.

She was a woman of sweet grace, quiet, gentle and good. She was a faithful loving mother untiring in her care of her family and devoted to her worthy husband. The beauty of her life and soul was not that of outward adorning but the “incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit,” which in the sight of God is of great price.”
