John George Moore

John George Moore was born at Rochester, New York, September 19, 1849; where he spent his boyhood. When 18 years of age he went to Illinois and worked on a farm for Joseph Graham. In 1869 he came with the Grahams to Douglas township, Madison county.

He was married to Nancy Jane Peed, August 31, 1871. To this union was born one daughter Katie Maude, who died in 1899, leaving two children (Mr. Moore’s grandchildren) Leo M. and George B. Reinert who were raised by their grandparents.

The Moores moved to Kansas in 1877 where they lived until 1883 moving then to Nebraska. From here they returned to Madison county, Iowa, in 1894. Mrs. Moore passed away August 13, 1923.

Mr. Moore united with the Worthington M. E. church more than 20 years ago and has continued his membership. One who has known him best said of Mr. Moore, “He was always kind and friendly an honest good whole-souled, an upright citizen.”

He passed away at his home after a few months of illness on August 17, 1931, at the age of nearly 82 years. He leaves besides his two grandsons other relatives and many, many friends.

Rev. A. R. Weed conducted the services at Tidrick’s Funeral home, Wednesday, August 19th and the burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

JOHN GEORGE MOORE DIES

John George Moore, a pioneer resident of Madison county, died at his home, Monday, August 17th, 1931, after an illness of several months. He was past 81 years of age.

When a young man, Mr. Moore came to Douglas township, with Joseph Graham. Here he was married to Nancy Jane Peed, August 1, 1871. They were the parents of one daughter, Katie Maude, who died in 1899. Mrs. Reinert left two children, Leo M. and George B. Reinert, who were raised by their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Moore.

The Moores moved to Kansas in 1877 where they lived until 1883. Then they moved to Nebraska, and returned to Madison county, in 1894. Mrs. Moore died in 1923.

Mr. Moore has been a member of the Worthington church the past twenty years and that pastor, the Rev. A. R. Weed, conducted his funeral services, at Tidrick's funeral home, Wednesday, August 19th. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
