Ruth Katherine Jobst, the youngest of three children of John Tobias Mueller and Wilhelmina Margaret “Maggie” Gebers was born in Guthrie County about 1˝ miles northwest of Adair on May 4, 1924 in Adair, Iowa. She died on January 27, 2005 at the Winterest Care Center North.
She attended country school and high school in Adair and graduated in 1941. She became a teacher through training courses and taught country school in the Adair area for 6 years.
She married Carl Edward Jobst on December 12, 1948 and they purchased a farm 5 miles southwest of Earlham. They built a new house on the farm in 1961 and had five children together.They moved to Dexter in 1988. She taught Sunday School and Catechism classes and was active in Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Ruth enjoyed needle work crafts and gardening. She froze chickens and strawberries and canned many other items from her garden. Ruth sold eggs to people as far away as Des Moines.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Dale. Ruth was survived by her husband Carl of Winterset, son Paul of Greenfield; daughter, Nancy Simonson and husband Philip, of Morristown, Minnesota; son Roy and wife Mary of Earlham; son Lyle of Ankeny; son Ray and wife Candy of Macungie, Pennsylvania; sister, Grace Hansen, of Adair, Iowa; and eleven grandchildren.
