OBITUARY

Violet Beryl, eldest daughter of A. B. and Janet Hunter Schalkle, was born May 10, 1896, in Coal City, Illinois, and departed this life March 23, 1941, at the age of 44 years, 10 months, and 13 days.

In 1908 she moved with her parents to a farm south of Earlham, Iowa. She attended the rural schools of Madison county. Numbered among her school mates was John E. Hoadley, who later became her husband.

When a young girl, she united with the Early Chapel Church of Christ later transferring her membership to the Church of Christ in Earlham.

She was united in marriage to John E. Hoadley February 11, 1920. They have always made their home near Earlham, with the exception of one year spent in California, in the interest of her health. It was a recurrence of this frail health that caused her untimely passing.

Violet was always a devoted wife and daughter. Her first thoughts were of her home and loved ones, and her ability as a homemaker was outstanding. Since her mother's death over three years ago, she has given much of her time to her father, and was constant in her watchfulness over him.

She was ever ready to serve her church in any way possible. In her own neighborhood she was interested in all projects for community betterment, and in her quiet, unassuming manner she was always willing to help others. Her gentle presence and ability to be helpful in whatever place she found herself endeared her to her friends. Her loving kindness and gracious hospitality will ever be a pleasant memory to them.

Her mother and one sister, Irene, preceded her to the Great Beyond. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, her father, A. B. Schalkle, her brother, Earl, all of Earlham; and one sister, Nellie Fritz of Pasadena, California. to these loved ones far more than to others comes the realization of how completely she gave herself.
