Earlham Echo - Thursday, December 12, 1946

Mrs. Eva Haney who went to the University hospital in Iowa City last week for treatment died there unexpectantly last Friday. Her condition being worse than her relatives and friends had thought.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Earlham Cemetery. Rev. C. A. Crouse had charge of the services.

Eva Caroline Bechtel, daughter of John and Diana Bechtel, was born August 5, 1876 in Filmore county, Nebraska, and departed this life December 6, 1946, at the hospital in Iowa City at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

On August 30, 1894, she was united in marriage to John Haney at Princeton, Mo. Her husband preceeded her in death eight years ago last October. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., for a time until they moved to a farm in Missouri. They came from this farm to Earlham about 22 years ago.

Mrs. Haney was a member of the Methodist Church, the Friendly Circle, the Rebekah Lodge, and the W.C.T.U. At the time of her death she was communion steward of the Methodist Church and secretary of the W.C.T.U.

She is survived by three brothers, Elmer of Olney, Ill., Bert of Earlham, and John of Des Moines; five sisters, Mrs. Sadie Kirkpatrick of Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Thompson of Waurika, Okla.; Mrs. Lulu Thompson of Ottumwa, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Hodson, Forrest City, Iowa; and Mrs. Elsie Pray of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by the various organizations of which she was a member and by her host of friends.
