James Carnahan, the well known horse driver and buyer, met with a very sudden death Monday morning last from heart disease. He had been speeding C. A. Cole's mare on the track (and) had returned to the barn and unharnessed the horse, when he stepped to the door and called his wife who was near to come to him. She came very quickly, just in time to prevent him falling to the floor. He was carried directly to the house, but when they reached there life was extinct. He had been having trouble from his heart recently and it is supposed that the excitement of the race he had been engaged in was the immediate cause of his death. His age was nearly 60 years The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at the Advent Church.

The death of J. G. Carnahan, Monday morning was a great shock to his many friends in this city. Mr. Carnahan had not been feeling well Sunday, but Monday morning he harnessed Tirzah, C. A. Cole’s fast mare, and went out to the track with her. He was very much elated over her show of speed and drove back to the barn with her in high spirits. He had cooled the mare out and put her in the stall, where he was suddenly overcome. He stepped to the door and called his wife, who ran to him just in time to see him die in her arms, without speaking another word. Heart failure was the cause of his death, brought on by the over-excitement of the morning.
The funeral occurred at the Advent church, Tuesday afternoon, under the conduct of Rev. Richards.
