CARL VICTORA

Carl Victora, son of Ignatz and Sarah Victora, was born May 6, 1877 and passed away Friday May 21, 1954 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years and 15 days.

All of his life was spent in or near Earlham. He received his education in the rural schools of Madison county. He chose farming as his occupation and continued to live on the old home place until he moved to Earlham in 1925. However, he never lost his interest in the farm and its activities. Carl was kind and considerate of others and although he lived a quiet life, he was interested in the activities of those around him and of the community.

He was endowed with a rather unusual musical ability. Without any formal musical instruction, he became adept on the concertina. He not only derived much pleasure from playing for his own enjoyment, but brought pleasure to others by playing for social occasions and over the radio. Even after his sight failed he continued to play. Three years ago his eyesight became so impaired it was necessary for him to give up his own home. At the time of his death he was almost completely blind.

For the past several months he has been in failing health. On Wednesday, May 19, he was taken to the hospital in Winterset, where he passed away two days later.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Joe Victora, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Hodini and Mrs. Emma Williamson. One brother, Fred Victora of Winterset, survives him; also a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Victora of Orient, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and some great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Friends church at Earlham on Sunday, May 23 with the pastor, L. Willard Reynolds in charge. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
