James McNew, son of Martin and Elizabeth McNew was born in Elmwood, Illinois, April 12, 1883 and passed away at his home north of Winterset, April 19, 1945, at the age of 62 years and seven days. He was one of a family of eight children, with five brothers and two sisters.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Louise Campbell, July 24, 1910. One child, Anna Louise, came to bless this union. The family came to Iowa in 1925.

Jim, as he was called, worked at the Marquette Cement Company south of Earlham, for 18 years. He loved his work and his fellowmen.

When a young man he became a member of the Methodist Church South. In more recent years he contributed to the support of the Fairview Methodist church.

He leaves besides his wife and daughter, other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, 1945, at 2 p.m. in the Welch funeral home at Earlham, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Henry, pastor of Earlham and Fairview Methodist churches. Interment was in Fairview cemetery.
