Stephen J. Hoagland, 52, of the rural Macksburg, Afton area, died February 16, 1994 after a short illness at the Des Moines Iowa Methodist Hospital. Services were held February 19, 1994 at the Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.
He was born November 12, 1941 in Perry to Harry T. and Hilda M. (Appenzeller) Hoagland. For the past ten years he was employed in the animal care unit of the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines. He was director of the Iowa State Pigeon Association, superintendent of the Iowa State Fair Pigeon Show and a member and officer of the Rare-Breed Club, judging many Iowa State pigeon association shows.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving relatives include his mother; three daughters, Robyn Shearer and Lisa Hoagland of Oak Park, Ill., and Janann Brownlee of Orient; one sister, Jan Murrell of Clarence and two granddaughters.
