Collision Takes Harold Hiskey

Harold Lee Hiskey, 50, of Patterson became Madison County's third traffic fatality of 1976, when his auto collided nearly head-on last Wednesday evening, December 8, with a car driven by Madison County Assessor Wayne Griffith on Highway 92 near Patterson.

The accident happened about 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, just east of the Steven Harpole residence on Highway 92, according to Madison County Sheriff's Deputy John Toppenberg, first officer at the scene.

Units of the Iowa Highway Patrol, Warren County Sheriff's office, Indianola ambulance service and Martensdale rescue team were at the scene, Toppenberg said.

Griffith sustained minor injuries in the collision, which completely demolished both vehicles. His life was apparently saved by wearing a seat belt. Hiskey was pulled from his burning automobile unconscious and was pronounced dead on arrival at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Harold Lee Hiskey were conducted Saturday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, Rev. Paul Bousfield and Mrs. Lucille Ringle presiding. Burial was made at the Winterset Cemetery.

Harold Hiskey was born October 25, 1926 in Madison County, the son of Lee and Ina Fortune Hiskey. He was a lifetime resident here, a veteran of World War II and employed as a construction worker.

The marriage of Mr. Hiskey to Eleanore Farlow took place July 10, 1961 in Bethany, Missouri. Mr. Hiskey was a member of the Cumming American Legion and the Patterson Lion's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanore; two sons, Ricky and Freddie; three step-sons, Kenneth Farlow, Florissant, Missouri, Eldred Farlow, West Virginia, Jerry Farlow, Parkersburg, Iowa; three daughters, Mary Ellen, Teresa and Debbie; two step-daughters, Dayna Decker, Peru, Linda Thornburg, Quincy, Illinois; three sisters, Geraldine Hiskey, Patterson, Kay Patterson, Reno, Nevada and Juanita Pinkston, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Harold Hiskey was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister, and one step-son.
