Loyd H. Black, a leading citizen of South township, died at his home south of St. Charles on Wednesday of last week. His death came suddenly, as he was taken ill only that day. He was 50 years of age.

Mr. Black's entire life was spent near St. Charles. He was born on a farm near there on April 1, 1892, the son of Alexander and Bessie Black. On Dec. 3, 1913, he was married to Gladys Neal. All their married life was spent on the farm near St. Charles where his death occurred.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Mrs. Florence Anderson of St. Charles, Victor Black, now in the U.S. army, Virginia Black of Winterset and Margery Black at home. He also leaves two brothers, Frank and Fred Black of St. Charles; and a sister, Mrs. Laura Torrence of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist church in St. Charles in charge of the Rev. Michael Millen. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

L. H. BLACK, 50, DIED WEDNESDAY

Lifelong Farmer of Madison County. Survived By Wife, Four Children

Lloyd H. Black, 50, lifelong farmer of Madison county, died at his home near St. Charles Wednesday afternoon, following an illness of only one day. He had been in good health up to Wednesday morning, when he took ill. He died late that afternoon.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church in St. Charles, at two o’clock, with the Rev. Michael Millen in charge. A quartette composed of Mack Buchanan, Earl Coltrane, Mrs. W. I. Renoe, and Mrs. C. C. Guilliams sang, accompanied by Mrs. Clive Johnson. The pallbearers were six cousins, Jesse Crawford, Wilkie Collins, Garry Black, George Black, Ora Black and Dell Pahre. Interment was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Lloyd Hiram Black was born April 1, 1892, the son of Alexander and Bessie Colley Black, at their home south of St. Charles. He was married to Gladys Neal, Dec. 3, 1913, and to this union four children were born: Florence Anderson of St. Charles, Virginia of Winterset; Margery at home, and Victor, who is in the armed forces.

He united with the Methodist church when a young man under the pastorate of Rev. Parick. He was a trustee at the time of his death.

Besides his immediate family, he is survived by two brothers, Frank and Fed, both of St. Charles, and a sister, Mrs. Laura Torrence of Des Moines, as well as other relatives and friends.
