Harley Knox Walker, 81, of Orient died June 17, 1999, at his home.

Graveside services were held Monday 21, at Greenfield Cemetery with the Rev. Lucy Elrick officiating. Flag presentation was conducted by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265.

Harley Walker was born April 12, 1918, in Adair County to Jud and Ida (Reed) Walker. He spent most of his early years in Madison County, graduating from Macksburg High School in 1936. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm until January of 1942, when he was inducted into the Army. He served three years and nine months and was a technical sergeant at the time of his discharge. He married Ruth Killion on March 15, 1947, at the "Little Brown Church in the Vale" in Nashua, Iowa. He was employed as a farmer and a mechanic. Harley and his wife moved to Orient in 1973, where he co-oowned and operated Orient Tractor Repair and later worked as a mechanic at the Case dealership in Creston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers.

He is survived by one son, Glenn Walker of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Joyce Gillogly (husband Dan) of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Doris McKee of San Jose, Calif.; and one grandson.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Steen Funeral Home of Greenfield.
