Winterset Madisonian - Wed., November 29, 1944
Mrs. Rollen Walker, a long-time resident of Winterset and vicinity, died at her home on North First street last Thursday. She was 88 years of age.
Mrs. Walker was the former Susan Wilson, daughter of John and Mary Wilson, and was born in Knox county, Ohio, in 1857. That same year she came to Iowa with her parents, and they settled on a farm near North English. As a young woman she was a school teacher.
She was married to Rollen Walker in 1885. They lived on a farm southeast of Winterset for 35 years. They were the parents of four sons, one of whom, Neal, died at the age of 21 years. The husband and father died in 1938.
She had been a member of the Christian church in early life, and while living on the farm here had united with the Oak Grove Evangelical church. Since moving to Winterset she had been a member of the Methodist church.
She is survived by her three sons, the Rev. Amos Walker of Sumner, Otis Walker of Winterset, and Virgil Walker of Lake Crystal, Minn.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Anderson Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Oak Grove cemetery.
