Mrs. W. E. Macumber, long-time resident of the Ord community, died Tuesday at Indianola, where she had made her home for the past 10 years. She was 70 years of age.

Mrs. Macumber was the former Tina Elvira Reynolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Reynolds, and was born at Carlisle, April 18, 1876.

He husband preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m., from the Ord church, and burial will be made in the Clark cemetery.

Transcriber's note: Marriage records and 6 different censuses indicate that she went by "Tena Ella" or "Ella". This is the only written record that her name may have been "Elvira". Her husband's obituary lists her name as Elvina.

MRS. W. E. MACUMBER RITES LAST THURSDAY

Former Prominent Resident of Ord Community Died on July 9

Funeral services for Mrs. W. E. Macumber, formerly of the Ord community, whose death occurred July 9 at Indianola, were held last Thursday from the Ord church near Winterset, in charge of the Rev. J. W. Garbison, state president of the Christian Union churches in Iowa. He was assisted by the Rev. B. C. Mott, pastor of the Indianola Friends church, and Floyd B. Jones of Tulsa, Okla., a former pastor of the Ord church.

Mrs. Macumber was the former Ella R. Reynolds, daughter of J. M. and Mary Reynolds, and was born at Carlisle, April 18, 1876. At the age of five years she moved with her parents to a farm in Madison county.

She studied music at Simpson college in Indianola, and for many years taught that subject over a wide rural territory.

On Oct. 9, 1901, she was married to W. E. Macumber of the Ord community. Most of their married life was spent on their farm in that neighborhood. They were the parents of two daughters, Mildred and Winifred. Mr. Macumber died in 1935.

During her long residence at Ord, Mrs. Macumber was extremely active in the affairs of her church and her community. She was a leader in Farm Bureau and 4-H club work in Lincoln township, and Madison county. She taught Sunday school at the Ord Christian church and gave much time to all phases of church work. She was a member of the Pitzer post, W. R. C., of Winterset.

Following the death of her husband in 1935, she moved to Indianola where she made her home until her death. In that community she organized the Christian Home club serving as its first president.

Her nearest surviving relatives are her two daughters, Mildred and Winifred Macumber of Indianola.

Ella R. Macumber
Ella R. Macumber, daughter of J.M. and Mary Reynolds, was born at Carlisle April 18, 1876. At the age of 5 she moved with her parents to a farm in Madison county where she grew to young womanhood.

She studied music at Simpson college and for many years taught that subject over a wide rural territory.

Oct. 9. 1901, she was united in marriage to W.E. Macumber of the Ord community southwest of Winterset. Most of their married life was spent on their farm in that community.

They lived for a time near Lorimor, where Mr. Macumber was engaged in stock-buying. Here their two daughters, Mildred and Winifred, came to make a happy and devoted family circle.

The Christian Union church at Ord has alwasy been "home" to Mrs. Macumber, having b3come a member there in her young womanhood. Here she gave lavishly of her time and talent, one of her dearest memories being the time spent with her Sunday school class of children, "Buds Of Promise." She made the interest of the community her own, and worked always toward the advancement of the things that made for high ideals of Christian living. With this thought in mind, as well as her innate love for all children, she organized the Christian Home club in Indianola, and served as the first president.

Another activity she enjoyed was her affiliation with the Pitzer chapter of the W.R.C.

The family circle was broken when the husband and father was taken Nov. 7, 1935. Subsequently the mother and daughters moved to Indianola, where they made their home until her death July 9, 1946, having recently passed her 70th birthday. Besides the two daughter she is survived by a host of relatives and friends.

One had to know Mrs. Macumber well to appreciate the depths of her nature, her deep, abiding devotion to the things she loved.

Funeral services were held at the Ord church near Winterset Thursday, July 11. The Rev. J.W. Garbison, state president of the Christian Union churches in Iowa, was in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. B.C. Mott, pastor of the Indianola Friends church, and the Rev. Floyd B. Jones, Tulsa Okla., a former pastor of the Ord church.
