MADELYN WALD, Winterset

Madelyn “Mattie” Wald, 84, of Winterset died July 10, 2005, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, July 13) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Mattie Wald was born April 13, 1921, in Winterset to Ancil and Nellie (Hart) Field and was a graduate of Winterset High School. On Feb. 18, 1969, she married Edward Wald. Madelyn had resided in Chicago for 45 years before moving to Winterset with her husband in 1983. She had been a waitress for many years and was retired from the Chicago School District following 12 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Willard Field and Almon Field; and two sisters, Sara Hewitt and Virgie Allen.

She is survived by one son, Gary L. Carnes of Indianola; one daughter Sandra Plafcan of Caddo, Okla.; a sister, Wilma Baker of Des Moines; a brother, William Dean Field of Missouri; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Madelyn "Mattie" (Field) Wald, 84, of Winterset, Iowa died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Madelyn was born April 13, 1921 in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Ancil and Nellie (Hart) Field. She married Edward Wald on February 18, 1969. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2003.

Madelyn graduated from Winterset High School. She lived in Chicago which is where she met her husband, Edward. Together they moved to Winterset in 1983. Madelyn was a homemaker and waitress for many years and retired from the Chicago School District after serving 12 years.

She is survived by a son, Gary L. Carnes and wife, Dawn of Indianola; a daughter, Sandra Plafcan of Caddo, Oklahoma; a sister, Wilma (Field) Baker and husband, Dwight of Des Moines; a brother, William Dean Field and wife, Marianne of Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Ronnie, Tina, Amber, Gigi, Christine and Amy Jo; and eight great grandchildren, Taylor, Wyatt, Mason, Rowan, Shannon, Martin, Stormey and Michelle.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward; two brothers, Willard Field and Almon Field; and two sisters, Sara (Field) Hewitt and Virgie (Field) Allen.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Ochiltree's. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation (3838 70th Street, Urbandale, Iowa 50322).
