Dorothy Hess, Swaledale

Dorothy Hess, 75, of Swaledale, died Feb. 15, 1995 at the Rockwell Care Center in Rockwell. Funeral services were Feb. 18 at the United Methodist Church in Swaledale. The Rev. Robert Dodge officiated the services with burial at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Swaledale.

She was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Hanley to Alva and Rachel (Bishop) Miller. She graduated from Patterson High School and the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines. She was married to George Hess on Oct. 21, 1978 in Ventura. She had served as assistant Post Master and rural correspondent for the Southern County Newspaper for many years. She was a member of the Swaledale Federated Garden Club; Ruth Circle of the United Methodist Church; the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Society; and the Swaledale Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Surviving relatives include three daughters, twins, Joyce Allen and Judy Wilkinson, both of Redfield, and Carolyn Dahlberg and husband James of Des Moines; one son, LeRoy Harrison Jr., and wife Patsy of Des Moines; one sister, Virginia Leasure of Des Moines; one brother, Max Miller of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
