Rites at Afton For M. F. Hermon

Melvin Francis Hermon, a former resident of Madison County, died of an apparent heart attack October 2 at the Dick Algreen farm east of Afton. He was 57 years of age.

A son of Albert and Grace Waltz Hermon, he was born in Lorimor on March 7, 1916.

He was married to Lora Duff on October 25, 1939 at Grant City, Missouri. They were parents of four daughters: Shirley (Mrs. Glen Wiedman) of Winterset; Kay (Mrs. Ray Goodridge) of Afton; Melva Jean and Lori at home.

Mr. Hermon spent most of his life farming and logging in Madison County. For the past 13 years he resided in Union County.

He is survived by his wife, the four daughters, five grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Grace Hermon of Earlham, four sisters, Bernice Hermon of Earlham; Mrs. Clarence Palmer of Earlham; Mrs. Dwight Hicks of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Mrs. Dallas Glazebrook of Murray.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 5 from the Stroud Funeral Home in Afton with Rev. James Morris officiating. Burial was in the Earlham Cemetery.
