MAX HERMON DIES AT AGE OF 57 YEARS

Native of Winterset, Had Spent 39 Years at Northwestern Bell Company

Max E. Hermon of Akron, formerly of Winterset, died Sunday, Sept. 17, at a hospital in Sioux City, after an extended illness. He was 57 years of age.

Mr. Hermon was a native of Winterset, where he was born Sept. 12, 1910, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hermon. He started work with the Northwestern Bell Telephone company at Winterset while attending high school here, and remained with that company for 39 years. He worked in the construction department in several Iowa communities, was an installer in Sioux City over eight years, was manager at Sioux City for a time. Fourteen years ago he moved to Akron where he was manager.

He served in the U. S. Air corps in World War II in the European theater of action. He was a member of the First Baptist church at Akron, the Masonic lodge at Sioux City, the Pioneer of the America club, the Akron American Legion and the Akron Commercial club.

He was married in June 1934, to Lois Henricksen of Alton, who survives him. He also leaves two brothers, Edward Hermon of Winterset and Wesley Hermon of Des Moines, five sisters, Mrs. Dora Hulbert, Mrs. Mary Rhodes and Betty Hermon of Winterset, Mrs. Gretchen Wagner of Waterloo and Mrs. Virginia Noenick of Los Angeles.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Christy Funeral home in Sioux City, at 9 a.m., with the Rev. Donald J. Ray, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran church, in charge. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery, with the Rev. Ben Johnsonn of Sioux City conducting the graveside service. There will be military ritual at the grave-side also.
