Grace Hermon, Earlham

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11, at the Friends Church in Earlham for Grace M. Hermon, who died March 8 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 90 years old.

Born Jan. 23, 1892 in Decatur County, Illinois, she was the daughter of William and Emma Van Trese Waltz.

Her early life was spent in Illinois. Later her family moved to Madison county where she married Albert Hermon on Feb. 19, 1913. Five children were born to the couple.

The family farmed near Earlham for several years. Mrs. Hermon moved into Earlham in 1958.

Preceding her in death were he parents; husband; a son; daughter; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Berniece Hermon of Earlham, Josephine Hicks of Minneapolis, and Mardena Glazebook of Murray; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Pastor Eldon Cole officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Earlham Cemetery.

Grace M. Germon, the daughter of William and Emma Van Trese Waltz was born January 23, 1892 in Decatur County, Illinois. She passed away March 8, 1982 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Grace attended school in Illinois as a young girl. Later the family moved to Iowa settling in the Madison County area.

On February 19, 1913 she was united in marriage to Albert Hermon in Winterset, Iowa. Five children blessed their marriage. The family farmed south of Earlham for many years. Albert passed away in 1948.

Grace had a great love for life on the farm. She also shared her life with many foster children from the Madison County area. She moved to Earlham in 1958 and for several years continued to be a foster mother. She also assisted many elderly people in Earlham.

Survivors include three daughters, Berniece Hermon of Earlham, Jo Hicks of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Mardy Glazebrook of Murray; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one daughter, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held at the Earlham Friends Church on March 11, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Eldon Cole officiated with Mrs. Irene Cole providing the organ music and also singling. Casket bearers were Dale Palmer, Ronald Palmer, Michael Landers, Glen Wiedman, Keith Macumber and Dean Hoeness.

Interment was at the Earlham Cemetery.
