Services for Joseph R. Waltz, 85, Winterset, who died Friday, Dec. 11, 1987, at Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurice J. Schulte officiating.
Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born in Audubon County on Nov. 30, 1902, he was the son of Amiel and Mary Conrad Waltz. A farmer, he has lived in this area 50 years after coming from Stuart. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church here.
Mr. Waltz was married to Mildred H. Freiberg at Stuart on Feb. 5, 1931.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis of Des Moines; daughters, Lilah E. Ness of Des Moines, Susie McCauley of Glenburnie, Md., and Karen A. Waltz of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Francis A. and Nicholas E., both of Winterset, John F. of Orient, Henry J. of Visalia, Calif., and Louis A. of Stuart; sisters, Marie E. Farrell of Menlo, Anna M. Shea of Stuart, Gertrude H. Pleiss and Catherine L. Philbin, both of Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a son, two brothers and a sister.
