Madge Violet Hirsch Heaps, 92, died of cancer Jan. 6, 1999 at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 11, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Madge Heaps was born May 16, 1906 in Marathon to Ross Arthur and Effie Lillian (Nelson) Garton. She married Walter Martin Hirsch in 1923. Mr. Hirsch died in 1945. She then married Francis Bernard Heaps in 1946 in Des Moines. A homemaker, Madge had been a resident of Winterset for the past four years. Prior to moving to Winterset, she was a resident of Boone since 1964 and prior to living in Boone she was a resident of Des Moines.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Francis, one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Walter R. Hirsch (wife Lena) of Dexter and Paul W. Hirsch of Boone; one daughter, Violet M. Williamson (husband Paul) of St. Charles; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
