Charles Hazen Dies Following Surgery

Charles Hazen, a life-long resident of Jefferson township, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, where he had undergone surgery last Thursday. He was 78 years of age.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but they will be held from the United Brethren church at Van Meter.

CHARLES HAZEN RITES HELD IN VAN METER

Funeral services were held at the E.U.B. church in Van Meter Jan. 18 for Charles E. Hazen, a life-long resident of that community, who died Jan. 15 at a Des Moines hospital.

Mr. Hazen was 78 years of age at this death. He had lived for 53 years on a farm south of Van Meter, retiring and moving into town in January 1962. He and his wife, the former Stella Pearl Sweezy, observed their Golden wedding anniversary in 1957, He was a life-long member of the Evangelical E.U.B. church.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, John M. and Robert L. Hazen, both of Van Meter, and Carl R. Hazen of Monterey, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Ira Piercy of Adel and Mrs. Roy Hubbard of Webster City; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Will Hazen of Altoona and Irwin Hazel of Adel.

The Rev. Clifford Carter conducted the funeral services at Van Meter Jan. 18. Burial was made in Union Chapel Cemetery.
