Walt Hayden Died May 9

Walter W. Hayden of St. Charles, a retired farmer and life-long resident of the county, died Tuesday, May 9 at Veteran's hospital in Des Moines, He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Hayden was born at Peru Dec. 6, 1888, a son of Eliza and Martha Ann Hogue Hayden. He was married April 10, 1922 to Myrtle Pickens, who survives him.

Mr. Hayden was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Winterset's Green-Rogers post of the American Legion. He was an elder in the United Presbyterian church of St. Charles.

Mr. Hayden was active in the Madison county A.S.C.S. organization for more than 15 years, serving both on the township committee and as a member of the county central committee.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Carroll Hayden of St. Charles and James Richard Hayden of Oak Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren; a brother, Ted Hayden of Lorimor and a sister, Mrs. Rose Kirsch of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the St. Charles United Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Eady. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Walt Hayden Dies Tuesday

Funeral services for Walter William Hayden were held Saturday, May 13 from the United Presbyterian Church at St. Charles. He died Tuesday, May 9, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Walter William Hayden was born in Peru, Iowa December 6, 1888, son of Eliza and Martha Ann Hogue. He was educated in Madison County and was a life time resident of that county. He was affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the American Legion. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Pickens on April 10, 1922. Two children were born to this union.

Surviving relatives include wife, Myrtle of St. Charles; son, Carroll and wife, Kay of St. Charles; son, Richard and wife, Jean of Oak Harbor, Washington; five grandchildren; one brother, Ted Hayden, Lorimor; and one sister, Rose Kirsch of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dan and June, and sister Mae Barker.

The Walter Hayden funeral was held at the United Presbyterian Church in St. Charles at 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Hayden was born in 1888 and passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, May 9. Arrangements were made by the Kale Funeral Home. Interment was at the St. Charles Cemetery.
