Isaac Newton Cronk, son of Eli and Elizabeth Cronk was born February 13th, 1859 and died in the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, April 10th, 1945, being 86 years, one month and 27 days at the time of his death.
He was born on the homestead of his father in Union township and spent all of his life but a few years within a quarter of a mile of the home. He had lived about 55 years at his present home.
He was married September 26th, 1877 to Martha Asenath Smith in Dallas county who predeceased him April 25th, 1936. To this union were born eight children, Lora Ella Kenworthy deceased, William Wesley deceased, Elizabeth Candace Zander, Brainerd, Minnesota, Eli Elwood, Hattie Florence Smedes, Mary May Dell Strong all of Des Moines, Arol Beatrice Coleman of Redfield, and Henry Howard of Earlham.
He was converted at the age of about twenty-two and joined the United Brethren church of which he was a member until the time of his death. He served as pastor of different United Brethren churches about ten years.
Surviving also are one sister, Mrs. Mary Coulter, twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Bear Creek church Friday afternoon, April 13th conducted by the pastor, Rev. John McCracken.
Lloyd Mendenhall, Oren Hadley, Alma Mapes and Gertrude Conrad sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Saved by Grace" with Berneice Hadley at the piano.
Burial was at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
