Myrtle Caroline Hayden, St. Charles

Services for Myrtle Caroline Hayden, 96, were held Tues., Nov. 19 at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Bill Gardner and the Rev. Arthur Eady officiating. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery. She died November 16 at Des Moines General Hospital.

Hayden was born November 5, 1895 to James and Caroline Ruth Wallace Picken at St. Mary's and attended St. Charles Schools and Teachers College in Des Moines. She married Walter W. Hayden in Creston and two children were born to this union. She was a life long resident of St. Charles and taught in the Peru School system for seven years. She belonged to the United Presbyterian Church in St. Charles and later to the St. Charles Parish Church. She was also a member of the St. Charles Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972; two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Carroll and wife, Kay of St. Charles and James Richard and wife, Jean of Oak Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

St. Charles resident, Myrtle Hayden services Tuesday

Lifetime St. Charles area resident, Myrtle Caroline Hayden died Nov. 16, 1991, at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines. She was 96

Services were Tuesday at St. Charles Parish Church. The Rev. Bill Gardner and the Rev. Arthur Eady officiated at the 11 a.m. service. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery with Kale Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hayden, the daughter of James and Caroline Ruth Wallace Picken, was born Nov. 5, 1894, at St. Mary’s in Warren County. She attended St. Charles schools and teachers college in Des Moines. She married Walter W. Hayden at Creston and they were the parents of two children.

Mrs. Hayden taught children for seven years in the Peru schools. She was a member of the St. Charles Garden Club, the United Presbyterian Church in St. Charles until it closed and then the St. Charles Parish Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, in 1972, two brothers, Joe and Graham and two sisters, Elizabeth Knott and Ruth Picken.

Mrs. Hayden is survived by two sons, Carroll Hayden and his wife, Kay, of St. Charles and James Richard Hayden and his wife, Jean of Oak Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren, Sandra, Randle, Richard, Clay, and Carla and two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Anna Hayden.
