MRS. LIZZIE STANLEY OF EARLHAM DIES

Mrs. Lizzie Stanley passed away April 16, at the Hazel Rowe nursing home in Des Moines, where she had been confined the past three years. She was 87 years of age.

She was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Hawley and spent most of her early life near West Branch, Iowa. On Oct. 15, 1884, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Stanley. For several years they made their home in New Sharon, Iowa. In 1892, the Stanleys moved to Earlham. Mr. Stanley passed away May 11, 1927 at his home in Earlham.

To this union were born one son and five daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Arvilla Lush of Calif., preceded her mother in death. She is survived by the son, C. B. Stanley of Earlham; four daughters, Mrs. Leta Taylor of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Myrtle Cross of Stuart, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Guth of Pomona, Calif.; and Mrs. Lois Lathrop of Silver Springs, Md.; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Welch funeral home Saturday, April 18 with L. Willard Reynolds in charge. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery by the side of her husband.

LIZZIE STANLEY

Mrs. Lizzie Stanley, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Hawley, was born on February 22, 1866, in Ohio. She passed away on April 16, 1953, at the Hazel Wroe Nursing Home in Des Moines, at the age of 87 years, one month, and 16 days. She had been confined in this nursing home for the last three years.

The early part of her life was spent at West Branch, Iowa. On October 15, 1884, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Stanley, and they made their home at New Sharon, Iowa, for several years. They moved to Earlham, in 1892. Thomas Stanley died on May 11, 1927.

To this union were born one son and five daughters; C. B. Stanley of Earlham; Mrs. Leeta M. Taylor of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Myrtle Cross of Stuart; Mrs. Arvilla Lush, deceased; Mrs. Mary Guth of Pomona, California; and Mrs. Lois Lathrop of Silver Springs, Maryland. There are also surviving 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Stanley was a long-time member of the Friends church. She will be remembered with loving memory by all her many friends.
