Robert E., son of Andrew and Nancy Evans Speer was born in Madison county, Iowa, December 13, 1870 and passed away at the Dexter hospital, Saturday, May 31, 1947, aged 76 years, four months and 18 days.

He was born of a family of 12 children, five having already preceded him. He is survived by two brothers, James of Earlham, and William of Newton, and four sisters, Elizabeth Piatt and Blanche Mark of Winterset, Mabel Bricker of Earlham, and Adelia Bloomquist of Stuart, a number of nieces and nephews and friends.

He worked for 42 years as a professional musician, traveling in many places. He retired in July 1938 and has since made his home with his brother, James Speer in Earlham.

Funeral services were conducted from the Welch funeral home Tuesday afternoon, by the Rev. S. R. Overholser of the Presbyterian church. The music was furnished by Mrs. Harry Foster and Mrs. Isabella Godby and at the piano Mrs. Earl Schalkle. The bearer's were: Ed Thompson, Howard Morlock, Earl Cozad, Charles Henry, Arthur Marks and Frank Libby. The body laid to rest in the Earlham cemetery.
