Services for Glen Russel Hatfield, 89, rural St. Charles, who died at his home Jan. 11 were held Monday, Jan. 16 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. Janne Clinton officiating. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Born Feb. 4, 1894 at Mill Creek, Ind., he was the son of Elmer and Estella Ellison Hatfield. He attended Madison County schools around Macksburg and was married June 15, 1920 to Fern Harpole at Bevington.
Mr. Hatfield spent all of his life in Madison County with the exception of 10 years spent in the western United States. He was engaged in farming and was a member of the American Legion post at Winterset and a member of the World War I Barracks.
Survivors include a son, Maurice W. Hatfield and wife Don of Brunswick, Ga.; daughters, Audrey Platnick and husband Joseph of New York City, and Marjorie Wetzel and husband Cecil "Bud" of St. Charles; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brothers, Harold Hatfield of Aurora, Colo., and Frank Hatfield of Macksburg; and a sister Faye Williams of Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, three brothers, two daughters and a grandson.
