Grace Hartman, St. Charles

Services for Grace Hartman, 99, formerly of St. Charles, who died May 30 at the Bethesda Care Center, were held Saturday, June 1, at the St. Charles Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Miller of Iowa City and the Rev. Doug Helton of St. Charles officiating. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Born in Warren County, Feb. 19, 1886, she was the daughter of Brazil and Hannah Small Gates. She attended Madison county schools, Drake University and Des Moines University. In 1938, she married Fred Hartman.

Mrs. Hartman taught in schools in Madison County and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles.

Survivors include a niece, Joan Forsyth of Estherville and nephew Dale Gates of Marshalltown; and two stepsons, Fred Hartman of Des Moines and Lorenzo Hartman of LaSeur, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and two brothers.
