Frank Gilbert, eldest son of Joseph and Elizabeth Houswert Gilbert, was born June 28, 1882, and departed this life at Maple Lin Manor at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 18 days.

On Christmas day 1907, he was united in marriage to Evangeline Riser. To this union was born one son Albert.

Frank moved to the farm where he spent his entire life at age eleven. He enjoyed farming and particularly livestock. He was Iowa's oldest breeder of Red Poll cattle and was known nationally for his work in this field.

He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Loyal.

Surviving him are his wife, Evangeline; one son, Albert, and his wife, Rose; two grandchildren, Larry and his wife, Helen, of Hanover Park, Illinois, and Rita still at home with her parents; one brother, Ray, of Leon; and four nephews: Delbert of Des Moines, Verlyn of Carson City, Nevada, Marlyn of Earlham, and James Gilbert of Kirksville, Missouri; also other relatives and a host of friends.

His passing leaves an empty place in our lives and he will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Last rites were held on Sunday, November 17, at Evans-McKee Funeral Home in Earlham. Rev. Ernest Baiotto conducted the service. Casket bearers were Lester Aldrich, James Gilbert, Delbert Gilbert, Marlyn Gilbert, Leonard Scar and Joe Smith. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
