GEORGE E. HARDISTY DIES AT 88 YEARS

George Elmer Hardisty, who lived in Winterset briefly about two years ago, died last Wednesday, Nov. 24, at North Crest manor in Council Bluffs. He was 88 years of age.

Mr. Hardisty was the father of Mrs. Florence Nielsen, Forrest Hardisty and Mrs. Vera Mitchell all of Winterset.

A son of Solomon L. and Lettia Jane Walton Hardisty, he was born in Adams county Dec. 19, 1876. His early life was spent there.

He was married Dec. 26, 1900 to Margaret M. Mack. His death Wednesday ended that marriage after 65 years.

Mr. Hardisty farmed in Adams and Adair counties until 1934, when he moved to Massena where he operated a store and station for several years. They lived in Massena until his health failed, coming to Winterset in 1963.

Two of his children preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; nine children, Mrs. Florence Nielsen, Forrest Hardisty and Mrs. Vera Mitchell all of Winterset, Loren Hardisty, Ivan Hardisty, Laverne Hardisty, Darlene Hulin and Evelyn Propeck, all of Council Bluffs, and Ida Black of Silver City; a niece that was reared in his home, Mrs. Goldie Means of Afton; 31 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and great great grandchild; two brothers, Lee Hardisty of Corning and Edward Hardisty of Omaha; and four sisters, Nora Penland of Clarinda, Anna Brown of Grant City, Mo., Rosa Means of Gravity and Ruby Powell of Creston.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, in charge of the Rev. Carl A. Crouse of Massena. Burial was made in the Quincy cemetery.
