Isadora May Poorbaugh, second daughter of Henry and Phoebe Poorbaugh, was born July 26, 1863, near Colfax, Jasper county, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Israel Freemon Harris September 18, 1881; a happy union that continued more than 53 years, until the death of her companion January 8, 1935. During the first few years of their married life they made their home in Jasper county. On March 1, 1889 they and daughter Grace moved to a farm in the Bear Creek neighborhood northwest of Earlham. A few years later a second daughter, Cecile was born. The Harris home was maintained in the Bear Creek community for 56 years, always a center of hospitality.

Dora Harris became a member of the Bear Creek Friends Meeting in March, 1895, and as long as health permitted, maintained a vital interest in the various activities of the church. For many years she was a member of the "Meeting on Ministry and Oversight", of the Burden Bearer's Sunday School class and the Missionary Society.

"Aunt Dode", as she was familiarly known, was a good woman, a kind and generous neighbor with a helpful Christian spirit. She never hesitated to answer any call for help, gladly giving aid in time of sickness, birth, or death.

Because of failing health she moved to Earlham more than two years ago. The last few months she had been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cecile James. On Friday, May 23, she was stricken with paralysis from which she never regained consciousness. She passed from this world to her final reward near the close of day June 3, 1947, at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and seven days.

Surviving her are two sisters: Harriet Poorbaugh of Long Beach, California; and Cora Failor of Topango, California. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Besides the sisters she leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Grace Hadley and Mrs. Cecile James, and six grandchildren: Harris Kenworthy, Myrle Coulter, Helen, Freemont, Ober, and John Hadley. There are also eleven great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews, other relatives, and a host of those who have enjoyed the privilege of her friendship.
