MORTUARY

Emma Sedora Elderkin

Mrs. Emma Sedora Elderkin, nee Garretson, was born in Winterset, Iowa, on October 26, 1860, and died August 31, 1931, at Los Angeles, California.

With the exception of a few years she spent her entire girlhood in Winterset. She was married on April 17, 1880 to Frank B. Elderkin and they lived in Winterset until he passed away on February 1, 1903. She continued to live in Winterset or Des Moines until the fall of 1927 when she moved with her daughter, Mrs. Jovita Wilcox, to Los Angeles, California.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three sons, Lysle of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Glenn of Winterset; and Paul, of Los Angeles, California, and one daughter, Jovita, also of Los Angeles, California. In addition to these, four brothers and one sister and eight grandchildren. The names of the brothers and sister are William Garretson of Portland, Oregon; P. W. Garretson of Seattle, Washington, Roscoe Garretson of Des Moines, and F. A. Garretson of Winterset, Iowa; Mrs. Eva Hopkins, Seattle, Washington. A host of friends and old acquaintances both in Winterset and Des Moines, mourn her loss.

When but a girl she united with the Baptist church of this city, where her membership remained until her death.

Services were conducted by the Rev. John T. Hall from Ramsey-Richards Funeral home at 2:30 Friday afternoon. Burial was in Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Elderkin Dies

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Emma Elderkin at her home in Los Angeles, California, Sunday, August 30th. Mrs. Elderkin was 69 years of age and had been in poor health for some time, but her condition was not thought to be serious. The body is being brought back to Winterset and funeral services will be held at Ramsey-Richards Funeral home on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Elderkin formerly lived here and leaves a son, Glen Elderkin and a brother, T. A. Garretson of Winterset. She also leaves a son Lyle of Minneapolis and a son Paul and a daughter Mrs. Joveta Willcox of Los Angeles. Mrs. Willcox had just returned home the day before her mother’s death from a trip here. More details of her life will be give in next weeks’ Madisonian.
