Mrs. Fred Cummings
Jessie Charlotte Ball was born near Winfield, Henry county, Iowa, on August 21, 1877. She died very suddenly at her home in Winterset on December 28, 1931, of thrombosis of the cardiac artery. She was fifty-four years of age.
She was married to Fred William Cummings at Mt. Pleasant on September 12, 1900. To them were born five children: Howard of St. Charles, Earl who died when 16 years of age, Lloyd of Winterset, Melvin of Des Moines, and Clara at home. There are two grandchildren, Margaret and Everett.
The early years of married life were spent in Henry county. They came to Madison county in 1907. Three years they lived in Story county.
Her father, William Ball, aged Civil war veteran lives at Winfield. She has four brothers and three sisters: George Ball of Mt. Pleasant, Edward of Osseo, Minnesota, William and Clifford of Winfield, Mrs. Mary Jessup of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Jennie Johnson of Winfield, Mrs. Ruth Hupp of Shelton, Nebraska.
In early girlhood Mrs. Cummings confessed her faith in her Savior and united with the Presbyterian church of Winfield. She has been a capable and loving wife and a faithful friend and sacrificing grandmother, spending her life to faithfully care for her motherless grandchild.
Her sudden departure has shocked her neighborhood and friends. The tender sympathy of the whole city goes out to the bereaved husband and children. They are tenderly commended to the Savior who doeth all things well and is able to comfort all that mourn.
