Mrs. David Hamner
Eliza Bell, daughter of Ezra and Mary Cooper Robinson was born in Hancock county, Indiana, August 16, 1873. When five years old she came with the family to Ottumwa, Iowa, where they stayed only a short time before the death of her mother. She then came to make her home with her grandfather, Josephus Cooper on their farm east of Winterset.
Her girlhood was spent here on the farm and she was married to David Hamner on June 9, 1892. To them ten children were born all of whom are living. Those in or near Winterset are: Harry Hamner, Mrs. Eva Wagner and George Hamner. The others are: Roy Hamner of Springfield, Minnesota; Mrs. Vernie Hammock of Bevington, Iowa; Mrs. Louise Hines of Earlham, Iowa; and Walter, Fred, Lenore and Laura at home.
After marriage they went to farming in Douglas township which has since been their home. While not living in their present house, all the time, they have lived on the same farm for 32 years.
Never was there a kinder and more loving mother. There was never any sacrifice too great for her to make for her home and family. She was also a kind neighbor and though most of her life has been spent within a few miles of her present home, her world as she knew it, was a world of all friends.
She has been in failing health for the past few months and passed away in her home on October 13th, at the age of 58 years.
Besides her husband and children she leaves four grandchildren and many, many friends.
Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted the service at Tidrick’s Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, October 15th, and the burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
