Wednesday, June 8, 1938Mrs. Rebecca Leech, a resident of Winterset since childhood, died at the state hospital in Iowa City last Saturday after a fatal illness of several months. She was 54 years of age.
Mrs. Leech was the former Rebecca S. Rowe, and was born April 16, 1884, south of Winterset, the daughter of Phillip J. and Martha Rowe. At the age of 6 years she came with her parents to Winterset, and had lived here continuously since that time.
She was married to J. Alvin Leech on November 12, 1929. Her husband died in April, 1936.
Mrs. Leech had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since young womanhood.
Near surviving relatives are her sisters: Mrs. Will Henry of Winterset, Mrs. Nellie Baird of San Pedro, Cal., and Mrs. Effie Van Ansdel of Los Angeles; and three brothers, Joe Rowe of Winterset, Bruce Rowe of Indianola, and Thomas Rowe of Los Angeles.
Funeral rites were held Monday morning from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. M. R. Talley, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
