Matthew W. Vaughn, a life-long resident of Madison county, died last Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. J. White of Winterset. He was 76 years of age.
Mr. Vaughn was born near Winterset, the son of Matthew C. and Elizabeth Rogan Vaughn. His early life was spent on the farm, and much of his later life was spent in Winterset, where he engaged in teaming. With the exception of four years at Newton, his entire life was spent in Madison county.
He was married in 1892 to Eda Weeks. They were the parents of seven children, one daughter, Emma, dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife; the six children, Lenore Vaughn of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Vern Clark of Booneville, Arthur C. Vaughn of Newton, Willard Vaughn of Roland, Mrs. C. E. Wiley of Waterloo and Mrs. L. J. White of Winterset. He also leaves nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held last Friday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. W. R. Watkins, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
