Services for Lucile Schalkle, Earlham, who died Feb. 11, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held Feb. 14 at the First Presbyterian Church where she had been a member for 75 years. The pastor, the Rev. Stewart Brooks, officiated. Burial was at the Earlham cemetery.

Born in Madison county Feb. 27, 1900, she was the daughter of J. H. and Margarete Kail Junkin, and moved with their family to Earlham when she was a high school student. She later earned a degree from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, now the University of Northern Iowa, and taught one year at Lawrence, Kan.

On Sept. 27, 1923, she married Earl Schalkle, and they continued to make their home in Earlham where Mr. Schalkle was in business. On Sept. 27, 1988, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

A lover of music, she served her church as pianist for 16 years. When not accompanying groups or soloists, she sang in the choir. She was also a deacon, primary Sunday School superintendent, Cradle Roll superindendent, and served in various offices of the Presbyterian Women's Organization.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star #294 where she had served as organist and Worthy Matron. She also belonged to the Past Matrons club and Garden Club.

Her parents and an infant son, David Junkin Schalkle, preceded her in death. Survivors are her husband Earl; a daughter, Margaret Sue Wallace, Marion, Iowa; a sister, Gayle Junkin, Earlham; and two grandchildren: Scott Wallace, Marion; and Linda Clifton, Cedar Rapids.
