Winterset Madisonian - March 17, 1967

Mrs. Maude M. Compton of Winterset, a resident of Madison county most of her life, died Friday, March 17, at a Des Moines hospital. She was 72 years of age.

Mrs. Compton was born at Woodbury, Nebr., on March 13, 1895. She was the former Maude M. Utterback, daughter of Oscar T. and Leone Rodman Utterback. She came to this county at the age of 4 years.

She was married at Winterset Dec. 5, 1917, to Royal G. Compton. They engaged in farming until 1946, when they moved to Winterset.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are her husband; three children, Mrs. Avis M. Kenworthy of Earlham, Glen W. Compton of Alhambra, Calif., and Mrs. Pauline Tuttle of Ontario, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Bush of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Jessie England of Perry, and Mrs. Fern Golightly of DeSoto.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, with the Rev. John Baxter of Earlham officiating. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.
