Winterset Madisonian - November 23, 1955

Funeral services were held Friday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset for Mrs. Emma Cole, 73, whose death occurred here Nov. 15. The Rev. Mr. Evans of St. Charles officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Cole was the former Emma Cue, daughter of Marion and Martha Cue, and was born near Fontanelle on May 30, 1882. She was married to William Cole on Aug. 12, 1910. She lived at Indianola for some time before coming to Winterset 22 years ago.

Her husband and four children preceded her in death. One of her sons, Scott Cole, died while serving with the U.S. Paratroopers in World War II. He was cited for valor in the invasion of Normandy, and was killed in action during the invasion of Holland.

She leaves five children, a son, Melvin Cole of Whittier, Calif., and four daughters, Mrs. Ella Armstrong of St. Charles, Mrs. Vera Reed of Winterset, Mrs. Minnie Garrison of Lockwood, Mo., and Mrs. Zelma Consolver of Melrose.

EMMA COLE OF WINTERSET DIES

Death Occurred Tuesday at Nursing Home in Winterset

Mrs. Emma Cole a well known Winterset resident for many years, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, at a nursing home here. She had suffered a stroke a month ago. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Cole was a native of Adair county, where she was born May 31, 1882 daughter of Kathryn and Marion Que. She had lived in Madison county for 24 years.

Her husband and four children preceded her in death. she is survived by one son, Melvin Cole of Whittier, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Armstrong of St. Charles, Mrs. Vera Reed of Winterset, Mrs. Minnie Garrison of Lockwood, Mo., and Mrs. Zelma Consolver of Melrose. She leaves 36 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from Richards Funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in the Winterset cemetery.
