John Alvin Leech, a life-long resident of Winterset, died of pneumonia, Tuesday after an illness of less than a week. He was 54 years of age.

Mr. Leech was one of the most widely known residents in Winterset. He was born here February 8, 1882, the son of Robert and Addy Williams Leech. He attended the schools here and graduated from the local high school. Entering the business world he first worked as a druggist for Will Henry. Later he entered the services of J. A. Ramsey where he remained until his death, having been retained when the firm of Ramsey-Richards was established.

He was married to Rebecca Rowe on November 12, 1929.

He was a Mason in Evening Star lodge, No. 43, in Winterset, entering the order in 1920. He served the lodge as master in 1926. Because of distinguished service rendered the fraternity he was commissioned district lecturer in 1927.

He is survived by his widow; a brother, Dr. Chester R. Leech of St. Paul, Minnesota; and two sisters, Floy Thompson of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Lucille Trawver of Des Moines. His parents, two brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were to be conducted today at 10 a.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. M. R. Talley of the Methodist church. Burial was to be in the Winterset cemetery, and the services at the grave were to be in charge of the Masons.
