Earlham Echo - August 1, 1974

Leo Conrad was born July 24, 1897 at Earlham, Iowa and passed away at his home in Earlham July 19, 1974. He was the eldest of three children born to John E. and Lelia E. Johnson Conrad. He lacked five days of attaining the age of 77 years.

Leo grew to manhood in the Earlham vicinity and spent the rest of his life in this community. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Curts August 24, 1921. They celebrated fifty years of married life in 1971.

Leo's life occupations consisted mainly of farming and doing electrical work. In August 1973, he and his wife retired from the farm and moved into Earlham.

Leo had been in failing health the past few months, but had recently returned from the hospital and had been enjoying the fellowship of visiting with friends and relatives. He was a member of the Earlham Friends church and had served as trustee and usher of the church for many years.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude, and one brother, Roland Conrad of Earlham, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, Evelyn Conrad York.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Friends church July 22 with Rev. Ernest Baiotto and Rev. Glenn Moore conducting the service. Miss Doris Cook was organist. Pall bearers were Charles Mendenhall, Russell Lee Conaway, Charles Gonseth, Eugene Conrad, Eldon Coulter, and Wilbur Russell.

Burial was in the Earlham cemetery. Evans-McKee Funeral Homes made the arrangements.
