RICHARD G. WELLS, Dexter

Richard Gerald Wells, 67, of Dexter died from complications of leukemia April 10, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 14, at the United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Robert Cooper officiating. Private interment of the cremains was at Dexter Cemetery.

Richard Wells was born Sept. 20, 1933, on the family farm near Dexter to Gerald and Leone "Bill" (Coulter) Wells. He was educated in the Dexter School District. Upon completion of high school, he worked at Adkins Foods, then as a heavy equipment operator and, for a number of years, ran his own business. Richard also had served as the town maintenance man and fire chief of Dexter. He married Betty Lou Stewart on Sept. 23, 1950.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Dexter; a daughter, Karen of Oak Grove, Minn.; two sons, Russell of Stuart and Ronald of Menlo; two sisters, Virginia Bond of Dexter and Connie Weber of Dayton, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
