Dorothy Jane Welch, 72, of Winterset died of congestive heart failure March 8, 2001, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 12, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Darrell Sams officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Dorothy Welch was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Des Moines to Robert Earl and Inez Mae (Gray) Fryer Sr. She married Wano Laverne Welch on Feb. 22, 1947, in Winterset. Through the years, Dorothy had assisted her husband with the Midland Carpet store in Winterset and with his concession business. She also had been a cook at the Aldo and Gold Buffet Dining Room and a cake decorator for the Bizz Mart grocery store. She had spent most of her lifetime in Winterset and Madison County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law, a brother and a great-grandddaughter.

She is survived by a son, Bruce Welch of Newport News, Va.; five daughters, Rita Moorehead, Sandra Pettit (husband Lilbert) and Walana Welch, all of Winterset, Dona Russell (husband Don) of Peru, and Terri Welch of Norwalk; 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
