PATRICK NOLAN

Death in a terrible form came last Sunday to Patrick Nolan, an old resident of Union township, who, through mistake swallowed some carbolic acid with fatal result. The particulars are meagre. I seems that Mr. Nolan awoke at about five o'clock on New Year's morning, and, without getting out of bed, reached for a bottle, intending to take a drink of liquor. The bottle which he took contained carbolic acid, and he drank some if it before discovering his mistake, and lived only about three hours. Dr.Davisson was sent for as soon as possible, but could not arrive before his death.

Mr. Nolan was a farmer, and had lived in section 2, Union township, for many years.

Obituary

Died, at his home in Union township, January 1, 1893, Patrick Nolan, in his 70th year. He was born in County Wexford, Ireland, but came to America when young. In 1850 he married Elizabeth Mahon. He had been afflicted for some years with a running sore on his leg, but was otherwise hearty. In this condition New Year’s eve left him, but New Year’s Day found him cold in death.

Mr. Nolan leaves a wife and seven children. Of the latter Lawrence M. live near Patterson, Mrs. William Kirby in Des Moines, and Mrs. R. J. Spragg in Chicago. The others still live at the family home. He was laid to rest in St. Patrick’s church yard, and a long concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
