Sarah Gunter, Winterset

Sarah E. Gunter, 80, of Winterset, died Dec. 29, 1994 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset of a heart attack. Funeral services were Dec. 31 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull officiated with burial at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born in Madison County on May 8, 1914 to Floyd R. and Dola (Patton) Hircock. She married Thomas C. Gunter in Des Moines on July 8, 1933. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Winterset. She had been a volunteer worker for Madison County Memorial Hospital and had worked for over twenty years in the hot lunch department for the Winterset Community Schools. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Good Neighbor Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; and one half-brother.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Robert D. Gunter and wife Anne of Florissant, Mo., Eugene C. Gunter and wife Marie of Van Wert, and Larry T. Gunter and wife Nancy of Kennesaw, Ga.; one daughter, JoAnn Sirdoreus and husband Harold of Grandview, Mo.; two half-sisters, Virginia Kirk of Lorimor and Doris Jackson of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
