Thursday, October 11, 1923Roy W. Guiberson
Roy Warner Guiberson, who died last Thursday, was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Guiberson. He was born in Winterset, Jan. 9, 1883. He never left the parental home and from early manhood was the mainstay of the family. His death was unexpected, although he had been a sufferer from diabetes for six years.
Besides his parents, there remain five brothers and sisters: Clarence and Henry of Winterset, Mrs. Fay Chapman of DeSoto, Mrs. Eva Jones of Des Moines and Mrs. Leona Myers of Winterset. Roy was the grandson of that sturdy and enterprising pioneer of Madison county, N. W. Guiberson, so long and familiarly called Uncle Nattie. Rev. Samuel Guiberson, one of the first preachers of the county, was his uncle; so was Hon. E. R. Guiberson, one of the first men to represent Madison county in the state legislature. J. R. Kale, another Madison county pioneer, was Roy's maternal grandfather. His descendants may be found in all parts of the county.
Roy never united with the church, but was a frequent worshiper at the Methodist church. He was an upright and enterprising young man and his numerous friends who filled the church to its utmost capacity at the funeral, were unanimous in their words of sympathy and affection.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
